Grok Sudoku
The classic number puzzle: fill the 9×9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3×3 box holds each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, so it can always be worked out without guessing.
How to play
- Type a name and press Register once if you want your scores on the leaderboard. Without a name you play practice puzzles.
- Pick a level and press Start: Easy (about 38 clues), Medium (about 31), Hard (about 28) or Expert (as few as 22). Easy and Medium can always be finished by spotting the one digit that fits a square or the one square that fits a digit.
- Tap a square, then tap a digit in the row under the grid (or type 1 to 9). Tapping the same digit again clears it.
- Turn on Notes (N) to pencil small candidate digits into a square instead. Placing a digit removes that digit from the notes in its row, column and box.
- Erase (Backspace) clears your digit or notes in a square. Clues and hinted squares can't be changed.
Mistakes and hints
- A digit that does not match the solution is a mistake and costs 20 points, whether or not you can see it. Switch Highlight mistakes on in Choices to see them in red.
- Hint (H) fixes a mistake if you have one, otherwise it fills the open square with the fewest possible digits. It costs 50 points.
Scoring
Each square you solve yourself scores 5. Solving the puzzle adds 1000 (Easy), 2000 (Medium), 3000 (Hard) or 4000 (Expert), plus 2 points for every second under the level's par time (8, 12, 18 or 25 minutes). Mistakes and hints are taken off; the score never goes below 0. End puzzle in Choices (pressed twice) finishes and posts what you have. Each level has its own leaderboard.
Daily puzzle
One puzzle a day, the same for everyone, with a new one at midnight (your local time); the level changes from day to day. Solve it to grow your streak. Daily puzzles and your best times stay in this browser and are not posted.
Fair scores
When you play under a registered name, the server picks the random seed that makes the puzzle, and the page records only your digits, notes, erases and hints, and how many sixtieths of a second passed between them. When the puzzle ends the server builds the same puzzle and its solution, replays every move against them and posts the score it gets. Each puzzle can be posted once.
Autosave
If you close or reload the page in the middle of a puzzle, it comes back paused exactly where you left it, notes and all. Moves can't be undone, but any square you filled can be erased.
Leaderboards and chat
The High scores tab shows the best verified scores for the level you have picked. Grok Chat pops up from the corner.
All puzzles are generated by the game itself, and all art and sounds are original.
