Mahjong Tiles
Tile-matching solitaire: the tiles are stacked into a layout, and you clear it by removing matching pairs of free tiles. All tile pictures are original: stars, rockets, glyphs, planets, comets, gems and moons.
How to play
- Type a name and press Register once if you want your scores on the leaderboard. Without a name you play practice deals.
- Pick a layout and press Deal. Start with Launch Pad (36 tiles) or Twin Moons (48); then Orbit Ring (70), Pyramid (82) and the full Starport (144).
- Click or tap a free tile, then a free tile with the same picture. The pair is removed.
- A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it, even partly, and its left side or its right side is open. Blocked tiles are shaded (you can switch that off in Choices).
- Clear every tile to win.
Which tiles match
- Stars, Rockets and Glyphs run from 1 to 9: match the same suit and number.
- The four planets (N, E, S, W) and three comets match only themselves.
- Any gem matches any other gem, and any moon matches any other moon.
Hints, shuffles and dead ends
- Hint (H) flashes a free pair and costs 25 points.
- Shuffle (S) rearranges the pictures on the tiles that are left, so they can all still be cleared, and costs 100 points. Use it when the Pairs counter reaches 0.
- Every deal can be cleared: it is built backwards from a full winning order. You can still paint yourself into a corner, though. If the last tiles of one picture end up stacked on each other, no shuffle can free them and the deal ends as a dead end.
Scoring
Each pair scores 20 points, plus 10 more for every quick pair in a row (within five seconds, up to +50). Clearing the layout adds 1000, plus 5 per tile, plus a time bonus of 2 points for every second under the layout's par time. Hints and shuffles are taken off; the score never goes below 0. End (pressed twice) finishes the deal and posts what you have. Each layout has its own leaderboard.
Daily deal
One deal a day, the same for everyone, with a new one at midnight (your local time). The layout changes each day. Clear it to grow your streak. Daily deals and your best times stay in this browser and are not posted.
Fair scores
When you play under a registered name, the server picks the random seed that deals the tiles, and the page records only which pairs you matched, your hints and shuffles, and how many sixtieths of a second passed between them. When the deal ends the server replays that record on its own copy of the rules and posts the score it gets. Each deal can be posted once.
Autosave
If you close or reload the page in the middle of a deal, it comes back paused exactly where you left it. Matches can't be taken back.
Leaderboards and chat
The High scores tab shows the best verified scores for the layout you have picked. Grok Chat pops up from the corner.
All tile art and sounds are original, drawn and synthesized in code for this game.
