Grok Crossword & Word Search

Two word puzzles in one game. Word Search hides themed words in a grid of letters; Crossword builds a fresh free-form crossword with original clues. Every puzzle is made by the game itself, so there is always a new one.

How to play

1. Type a name and press Register once if you want your scores on the leaderboard. Without a name you play practice puzzles.
2. Pick a puzzle and press Start. Easy comes first: Search Easy (8×8, 6 words, across and down only), Cross Mini (7×7, about 5 words), Search Medium (10×10, 8 words, diagonals too), Cross Midi (9×9, about 8 words), Search Hard (12×12, 11 words, any direction including backwards) and Cross Maxi (11×11, about 11 words).
3. Word Search: drag across a word from its first letter to its last, or tap the first letter and then the last. Themes include Starport, Grok, Space, Kitchen, Animals, Weather, Ocean, Music, Garden and Fantasy.
4. Crossword: tap a square (tap it again to switch between Across and Down), or tap a clue. Type, or use the letter keys beside the grid. The cursor moves along the word as you type.

Hints, check and reveal

• Word Search hint (−30) circles the first letter of the next word you have not found. A selection that is not a hidden word costs 5.
• Check (−25) clears every wrong letter in the crossword.
• Letter (−15) reveals the square you are on; Word reveals the rest of the current word (−15 for each letter it shows). Revealed letters are purple and locked.

Scoring

Word Search: 40 for each word found. Crossword: 5 for each letter you filled in yourself. Finishing adds a bonus (500, 800, 1000, 1500, 1500 or 2500 from Search Easy to Cross Maxi) plus 2 points for every second under par (4, 6, 6, 10, 8 or 15 minutes). Hints, misses, checks and reveals are taken off; the score never goes below 0. End puzzle in Choices (pressed twice) finishes and posts what you have. Each puzzle type has its own leaderboard.

Daily puzzle

One puzzle a day, the same for everyone, with a new one at midnight (your local time); the type changes from day to day. Solve it to grow your streak. Daily puzzles and your best times stay in this browser and are not posted.

Fair scores

When you play under a registered name, the server picks the random seed that makes the puzzle, and the page records only your selections, letters, checks, reveals and hints, and how many sixtieths of a second passed between them. When the puzzle ends the server builds the same puzzle, replays every move and posts the score it gets. Each puzzle can be posted once.

Autosave

If you close or reload the page in the middle of a puzzle, it comes back paused exactly where you left it. Moves can't be undone, but crossword letters can be erased.

Leaderboards and chat

The High scores tab shows the best verified scores for the puzzle type you have picked. Grok Chat pops up from the corner.
