Grok Bomber
An original arena game. Drop bombs to blow open the crates, collect power-ups, and be the last bomber standing.
How to play
- Type a name and press Register once if you want your scores on the leaderboard. Without a name you play practice games.
- Pick 1 player or 2 players in Choices, then press Start game (or Enter, or tap the playfield).
- Touch or mouse: hold the tile you want to walk to and your bomber finds the way there. Press the Bomb button to drop a bomb.
- Keys or buttons: walk with the arrows and drop a bomb with Space (or X). In a 1-player game W A S D and F work too.
- Two players on one keyboard: player 1 uses the arrows and Space, player 2 uses W A S D and F. On touch screens the buttons and taps control player 1.
The arena
- A bomb goes off after about two and a half seconds and its flames shoot along the rows and columns. Flames stop at walls and crates and set off other bombs in a chain.
- Broken crates can hide power-ups: Blast (longer flames), Bag (one more bomb at a time), Boots (faster) and Kick (walk into a bomb to send it sliding). Flames burn up power-ups lying on the floor.
- Your own flames can catch you, so drop a bomb and step around a corner.
Rules and difficulty
- Win a round by being the last bomber standing. Lose or draw and you replay that round. You have 3 lives, and each lost round costs one.
- Difficulty ramps slowly. Round 1 has one slow, careful rival with short flames. Round 2 adds a second rival. From round 4 the rivals start hunting you, and later rounds bring three faster rivals with more bombs.
- In a 2-player game player 2 joins the arena as one more rival: the last one standing wins. Scores are player 1's.
- A game ends after an hour of play.
Fair scores
When you play under a registered name, the server picks the random seed for your game and the page records only your inputs and when. The computer rivals think inside the game rules, so when the game ends the server replays that record on its own copy (whole-number maths, so both give exactly the same result) and posts the score it gets. A score can't be typed in or edited, and each game can be posted once.
Autosave
If you close or reload the page in the middle of a game, it comes back paused exactly where you left it. There is no undo.
Leaderboards and chat
The High scores tab shows each player's best verified score and round, and Overall shows the site-wide totals. Grok Chat pops up from the corner. Use Share on X at the top to tell your friends.
All names, art and sounds are original, drawn and synthesized in code for this game.
