Grok Breakout

An original paddle-and-ball game set in the Starport. Keep the ball in play, smash every glowing brick and catch the power-up capsules that fall from broken bricks.

How to play

1. Type a name and press Register once if you want your scores on the leaderboard. Without a name you play practice games.
2. Press Start game (or Enter, or tap the playfield).
3. Move the paddle with Left and Right, the arrow keys, or by dragging (or moving the mouse) over the playfield. Press Launch, Space or tap to send the ball up. It launches by itself after a few seconds.
4. Where the ball lands on the paddle sets its angle: the middle sends it straight up, the ends send it off to the side.
5. Clear every brick to move on to the next layout.

Rules

• You start with 3 paddles and earn an extra one every 8,000 points (up to 6).
• Darker bricks with dots take 2 or 3 hits.
• Capsules: W wide paddle, S slow ball (both last 15 seconds), M multi-ball (two more balls), + extra paddle. Each catch is worth 50.
• Difficulty ramps slowly. Level 1 is a small wall of 32 one-hit bricks and a slow ball. Each level starts the ball a little faster, lets it speed up a little more as the rally goes on, and brings tougher bricks. After six layouts they repeat at higher speeds.
• If the ball keeps bouncing without hitting a brick, the paddle gives it a slight random nudge so it can't loop forever.
• A game ends after an hour of play.

Fair scores

When you play under a registered name, the server picks the random seed for your game and the page records only which controls you held and when (dragging is recorded as Left and Right). When the game ends the server replays that record on its own copy of the game rules (whole-number maths, so both give exactly the same result) and posts the score it gets. A score can't be typed in or edited, and each game can be posted once.

Autosave

If you close or reload the page in the middle of a game, it comes back paused exactly where you left it. There is no undo: the record only ever grows.

Leaderboards and chat

The High scores tab shows each player's best verified score and level, and Overall shows the site-wide totals. Grok Chat pops up from the corner. Use Share on X at the top to tell your friends.
